Doom Island (虚空島 Kokuu Tou) is a recurring location in the series, serving as the main hideout of the Sinistrals within the Fortress of Doom. It is a floating island that appears along with the Sinistrals and serves as their base of operations, from which they devise and carry out their plots to enact judgement over the human race.
Description[]
Doom Island is an odd-looking landmass consisting of a mountainous landscape filled with wooded and marshy environments. The wildlife it inhabits there consists of curious and rare creatures such as elementals or cores, or highly dangerous creatures such as dragons or giants. The island somewhat varies between each of its appearances, appearing in Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals as a gigantic mossy temple, or appearing as a mechanical airship covered with earth in Lufia: The Legend Returns. As usual, the most consistent aspects of Doom Island are the mountain where Daos Shrine rests or the additional landmass where a snake-like motif rests.
From within, Doom Island looks vastly different, appearing as sort of ancient ship made of a black stone-like material, housing in each of its rooms a giant piece of Floatium, which is a mineral that apparently contains the energy to keep the island aloft.
Appearances[]
Lufia & the Fortress of Doom[]
After the Hero is suggested finding Dual Blade to vanquish the revived Sinistrals, Artea tells him that Dual Blade might still be somewhere in the remains of Doom Island underwater. The Hero departs from Elfrea to begin modifications on the Falcon to allow underwater navigation. Arriving at Linze in search for Alumina ore, the Hero meets a researcher of Doom Island called Clack, who tells him that Doom Island had sank beneath the ringed island Soshette. Doom Island was indeed beneath the island, just as Dual Blade was laying deep inside the Fortress of Doom. After claiming Dual Blade and learning the truth about Lufia, Daos raises Doom Island once again while the Hero escapes to Soshette to make preparations, Spotted near the odd Glasdar Tower close to Arubus, Doom Island was seen stationary for some reason. After reaching the top of Glasdar Tower, Daos mocks the Hero and destroys the Dual Blade, departing with Doom Island to enact judgement to humanity, 100 years of grief later. Doom Island is later seen somewhere near the Tower of Grief near Arus, where after the grueling battle with the Sinistrals, starts falling and finally crashing somewhere in Southland.
Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals[]
Shortly after Maxim and his party encounter with Daos for the first time in the Underwater Shrine, Daos transports them to Chaed to boast about his power by destroying it with Doom Island. Afterwards, Daos formally announces of his plan of subduing humanity and departs boarding Doom Island to destroy anyone who dares oppose him. Fortunately, Doom Island is sealed within the center of the Narvick Archipelago through the power of the Three Sisters. Maxim and his party then depart to put an end to the Sinistrals. After a long fight, Daos and the other Sinistrals are defeated, but Daos uses what remains of his Spiritual Force to forcefully send Doom Island to collide with Parcelyte where Maxim's son was living. Maxim is then helped by Iris who sends him to the core of Doom Island to try changing its collision course by breaking its Floatium cores. Using what remained of his Spiritual Force, Maxim manages to alter the collision course, yet all the strain he received ends up killing him at last. Doom Island is reportedly stated to crash somewhere in the seas of Westland, which makes Lexis prepare to move his base of operations to begin a deep investigation regarding its secrets.
