Ragule (ラグール, Raguuru) is the main antagonist of Lufia: The Ruins of Lore. Appearing seemingly out of nowhere, the mysterious Ragule shows up at Gratze's door during a time it was facing a grave civil war crisis. Claiming to have the solution for the long-standing conflict, Ragule manages to attain a notable position in Gratze; yet, nobody was really aware of what he was planning behind the scenes...

Profile[]

Background[]

Ragule is a descendant of the legendary Eristolian king Odin, meaning he carries Ancient blood; thus allowing him to harness and control the power of the Beast Goldiark. Not much else is elaborated on him, beyond his intention to claim what he considers is his birthright.

Appearance[]

Ragule is depicted as a middle-aged man of pale skin, gray hair, and notably red eyes. He wears a blue combat suit, which appears to be of Gratzian origin; a tattered orange cape; and a small locket which encircles his head.

Personality[]

Ragule is an arrogant being with a clear complex of superiority, claiming to be superior to modern-day humans, while also finding them repulsive. Nothing else is known about him, as he makes a short appearance very late in-game.

Story[]

Northeastern War[]

Ragule appeared out of nowhere during this time of crisis. Somehow, he managed to gain the king's trust, and acquired the Royal Ring, claiming it to be the solution to the civil conflict. As the Ring was used to raise back the lost land of Eristol, Ragule went to unseal the Beast's half hidden in the depths of the Labyrinth of Eristol. Back to Gratze, the Beast's half appears to have been used to end the civil war, though it is unknown by what means; although Gondarle's destruction seems to be related to this.

Some time later, after attaining a position of power within the newly instituted military state of Gratze, Ragule slew the king and assumed control of the state behind the shadows. Ragule would just vanish as he appeared initially, leaving Gratze the sole order of searching the remaining half of the Beast by any possible methods, thus starting Gratze's offensive on Northland's nations.

Rand and the Ring[]

While Ragule's age is unknown, it can be said that Ragule devoted most of his life to learning his origins, and that at certain point he learned of the existence of the Beast Goldiark, arriving then to the present time through the Time Portal to achieve his objective. It is implied that Odin was not an Eristolian of noble blood, unlike Eldin and his family; thus impeding him to open the way to Bastaam, as this needed the user to carry royal blood.

Details are fuzzy on how he even found about Eldin's existence; but after he learned of it, he appears to have planned for Rand to take Eldin to break the seal of Bastaam, as he appeared to him one day only to lend the Royal Ring that was acquired after the Northeastern War events. This single event in Rand's life made him devote his life to learn about Eristol, and this event would later end up with Eldin unsealing the way to the Holy Land for Ragule.

Beyond Bastaam[]

Whatever he planned by lending the Ring to Rand, Ragule would return some time later to claim it back, and then resume control of Gratze to aid in the search of the missing half of the Beast. Ragule would actively avoid confronting the party; opting to hide and likely track the movements of Eldin's party. Ragule would only show up to them shortly after the way to Bastaam was unsealed, knocking them aside, and stepping up to claim the soul of Goldiark.

Ragule would be confronted by Eldin's party, now in possession of the Beast's half he missed early. As he engaged them in battle for the half, Ragule would be defeated and killed by their efforts; yet, his body would unexpectedly morph into the incomplete Goldiark and begin to talk to them, proclaiming to be the legendary Odin, and proclaiming to have resurrected through Ragule, his descendant. With Ragule dead, it would be only a short matter of time before Northland would see a new age of peace.

In-Battle[]

General Strategy[]

Ragule is as basic as a final boss can get. Acting two times per turn, Ragule often chooses to use Double Hit, which can easily one-shot or leave in grave condition a party member. To avoid heavy damage, Rune Rings are vital for the fight, as these can drain his AP, beyond serving as great defensive gear. Learning Heal All is a must, to withstand his AoE attacks, but to also keep the party in shape for the upcoming fight against Goldiark.
